Five Tips for Beautiful Engagement Photos

I love working with couples on their engagement photos. It's such a unique time in your life- your marriage will last for years but there is just this little moment in time that you two are engaged. And trust me, it flys by! Below are my top five style tips for beautiful engagement photos!

1. there's no such thing as too dressed up
I like to tell couples to dress as if they are going to attend a wedding after the photo session. These are photos that you are going to want to hang in your home and it's important to look your best for what will be timeless photos.
Also, it's a great excuse to play dress up! If you have ever thought about rocking a sequined gown, tulle skirt or flower crown but just never had an occasion for it- this is your chance!

2. yes to the dress

I HIGHLY recommend wearing a dress (or two!). Dresses photograph beautifully and flatter the female body so much more than jeans and a top. You could go with a short and flirty length or long and elegant- have fun with it!

If you don't want to commit to a purchase, Rent the Runway is always a great option!

3. it's all in the details

Accessories photograph beautifully and give you a nice, "put together" look, so don't forget to the details! Jewelry, belts, scarves or hair accessories add dimension to your look and will help everything look complete.

Your ring will also be center stage so this is a good time to get it cleaned and your nails done. I also recommend bringing your fiance along to get a manicure as well! It's fun and his hands will be in detail shots as well!

4. as long as he's got that suit + tie

Depending on your fiance's personal style, the formality can range from a button down shirt with slacks to a formal suit. It’s most important that his level of formality matches with yours. If you are wearing an evening gown, he should definitely be wearing a full suit, whereas if you have a cute cocktail dress on, he could get away with a blazer and button down shirt.

Regardless of how formal you want to go, long pants and close toed shoes are the best looks on men!

For him some nice details are- ties, bowties, pocket squares, colored socks, suspenders, vests or watches.

5. a little something extra

I am a huge fan of props. They help your photos look more editorial and also give you something to do with your hands. Classic go to props are a bouquet of flowers for you to hold along with champagne + glasses to add a little celebratory romance.

It's also a great way to showcase your personalities. For example, couples living in Wine Country might want to incorporate their favorite wine or a couple that loves the beach might want a beach picnic or even surfboard. If you want to go big- classic cars or cute bicycles are fabulous.
